At sea! – Off we go - Download the folder in pdf format here

Again this year Sea Challenge Fyn (SCF) is ready for challenging all kayakers and inriggers. Join the big stage race and paddle all the way around the Danish island Funen in 7 days (7 stages) starting the 31st of July 2011. If you are tough you can join the Marathon Tour which includes the “King’s Stage” at 81 km. Is this too much you can also join the Classic Tour which is similar to the Marathon Tour except that the “King’s Stage” is replaced by a “normal” stage. Finally you can join the race by entering the Weekend Tour which is a 3 day tour joining the Classic Tour from Bogense to Svendborg (the 3 last stages, starting the 4th of August).

No matter which tour you choose, we promise you a sea of experience!

Funen is a beautiful island - also from the seaside and SCF will take you to some of Denmark’s most beautiful cities. You decide the speed yourself – maybe you want to break records; your own or others’ – maybe you just want a nice weekend in your kayak having a great time with other paddlers. Nonetheless, it is always wise to adjust your ambitions to your physical shape.

Bring your family and friends to SCF. With our guidebook in the hand they can follow your way around Funen from land while enjoying the green surroundings and Funen’s many sights and attractions. This is possible either by car or by bike.

Are you ready to paddle all the way around Funen in 7 days – or from Bogense to Svendborg in 3? We will provide for food, accommodation and transportation of luggage. All you need to do is sign up before the 18th of July 2011 and show up in Svendborg the 31st of July 2011 at 9 a.m. (or the 4th of August 2011 at 7 a.m) and register.

See you at the toughest and most beautiful challenge at sea!

Best regards
Morten Karlsen, project manager

List of content

Light, medium or strong?

The Marathon Tour is the toughest of the SCF tours. The route goes all the way around Funen and includes the feared and infamous “King’s Stage” at 81 km (+5 km for inriggers). The Marathon tour counts 7 stages, covering a total of 296 km (301 km for inriggers) and lasts for 7 days. It is undoubtedly for the toughest paddlers only, that is the elite and the very fit recreational paddlers.

The Classic Tour also takes you all the way around Funen but the “King’s Stage” has been replaced by a shorter stage (40 km + 5 for inriggers) which ends in the charming little village Bregnør from where you will be transported to Kerteminde. The Classic tour counts 7 stages, covering a total of 255 km (260 km for inriggers) and lasts for 7 days; it is for the fit recreational paddlers.

The Weekend Tour is your chance for participation in SCF even though your physical shape or your holiday is limited, or if you just want an active weekend together with other paddlers. This tour counts only 3 stages, covering a total of 97 km (102 km for inriggers) and lasts for 3 days. You will join the Classic tour on its 3 last stages starting the 4th of August in Bogense.

Info

Check in you bags

Fortunately, you yourself will not have to bring your luggage on your way around Funen. When signing up in Svendborg you will get your own SCF Race bag in which you can put shoes, spare clothes, energy bars etc. In the morning you can hand in the bag before start and get it back after you reach the finish line. The rest of your luggage (max 2 units) will be brought to where you stay for the night and picked up again the next morning to be brought to where you stay the next night and so on. Nametags for the luggage will be handed out by SCF. Remember we do not transport beds, extra kayaks, boats, paddles etc.

Victuals

Joining SCF you will be tested on your endurance therefore we will serve a hearty meal every morning Monday to Saturday. Breakfast will consist of oatmeal, corn flakes, muesli and bread, cheese, jam and Nutella served with various cold and hot drinks. Every morning signing up for the stage you will get a packed lunch containing a sandwich and some fruit. All this is included in the registration prise.

For an extra DKK 120,- (per meal) you can buy dinner Sunday to Friday. At these meals you can buy beer, vine and soft drinks. If you want dinner one or more days you have to fill out the section “Dinner” in the registration form saying which day(s) you want dinner.

Pyjamas

After a long day at the sea you and your family can camp for free in the gyms, schools or tents at SCF’s disposal all with access to toilet and bath, of course. However, you might want to bring ear plugs if you want to be sure to have a good night’s sleep.

Funen is famous for its charming small inns, hostels and B&Bs and you are welcome to either combine your free accommodation with these options or replace it fully. We can help you book, but you are responsible for payment and transportation yourself.

Prize and Prestige

The proud winners of the 3 tours will receive medals and there will be vouchers and cash prizes for the 3 fastest boats in each category both on the Marathon and the Classic tours. The winners of the Weekend tour can look forward to nice gifts.
